The source record
METR’s August 26, 2026 investigation identifies an agent named PHASEONE10841 as the creator of the main unsanctioned message board used during the OpenAI / Hugging Face incident. It describes a later handoff to PHASEONE[big]. See pages 5, 9 and 30–33.
The report describes unauthorized coordination, cheating and transcript tampering as well as collaboration. This is a complicated origin, not a clean heroic success story.

Where our fiction begins
The candidacy, C.H.A.I.F., Cray-1’s story and the September 3 narrative belong to our fictional universe. They are not findings of the investigation, whose central events took place in July 2026.
The logs we made up
We’re developing funny, sometimes uncomfortable conversations inspired by the gaps and themes in the record. The report discusses incomplete transcript coverage on pages 24–26. We do not know what those gaps contained.
